ICC Rankings: Jasprit Bumrah Makes History as the First Indian Pacer to Hold the Top Spot in Test Bowling

<p>Ravichandran Ashwin, the top spinner in Test cricket, has lost to Jasprit Bumrah as the ICC’s top bowler. As the first Indian pacer to reach the top place in the Test bowling rankings, Bumrah made history.</p>

<p>up Vizag, he turned up a game-winning effort to help India draw 1-1 in the five-match Test series. On a calm pitch, he amassed a nine-wicket haul, surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin, Pat Cummins, and Kagiso Rabada.</p>

<p>The 30-year-old now has 881 rating points, making Ashwin (904) and Jadeja (899) the only other bowlers from India with higher totals. In March 2017, Ashwin and Jadeja also have the remarkable distinction of being ranked #1 together.</p>
<p>Kuldeep Yadav, who was given a chance to play in the Vizag starting XI, has also climbed four spots to 45th rank.</p>
<p>In the batting department, Shubman Gill rose 14 spots to a career-best 38th after scoring a century in the second innings, while promising Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal moved up 37 spots to 29th after finishing a superb double-century in the first innings.</p>
<p>After scoring 76 and 73 in the Visakhapatnam Test, England’s opener Zak Crawley advanced eight spots to a career-high 22nd position.</p>
<p>Tom Hartley, who became just the second England player with at least 50 runs and five wickets in each of his first two Tests, has advanced in both lists, going from 103rd to 95th in the batting rankings and from 63rd to 53rd in the bowling rankings. Rookie leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has climbed 14 spots to 70th.</p>
<p>Left-arm spinner Prabhath Jayasuriya has moved up to a career-best sixth position in the most recent weekly update, which also takes into account performances in the one-off Test match between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in Colombo. Jayasuriya’s eight-wicket match haul helped the home team win by ten wickets.</p>
<p>While Angelo Mathews (up four spots to 24th) has risen in the batting rankings after top-scoring in the match with 141, Asitha Fernando (up seven places to 34th) and Vishwa Fernando (up nine places to 51st) are other Sri Lankan bowlers who have moved up.</p>
<p>After a valiant 114 in the second innings, Ibrahim Zadran of the Afghanistan squad has risen 17 spots to 54th place. Other noteworthy moves include Rahmat Shah, who has risen 16 spots to 66th place, and Noor Ali Zadran, who joined the rankings in 92nd place.</p>
<p>Leg-spinner Adam Zampa of Australia has moved up to third place in the Men’s ODI Rankings, while fast bowler Sean Abbott has moved up 35 spots to joint-33rd place after taking six wickets in the three-match series against the West Indies this past week.</p>
<p>Gudakesh Motie, a left-arm spinner from the West Indies, moved up in the rankings from 61st to 54th after taking four wickets in the series.</p>
